A conversation with - Jason Pulgarin
OCCI – Where did you grow up & how were you introduced to art?
J – I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN. I WAS REALLY DRAWN TO ART AS A CHILD, ESPECIALLY WATCHING CARTOONS LIKE THE SIMPSONS AND READING COMIC BOOKS TRYING TO REDRAW ALL THE SUPERHEROES AND CARTOON CHARACTERS, BUT IT WAS MY GRANDMA WHO SAW MY INTEREST IN ART VERY EARLY AND PUSHED ME IN THAT DIRECTION. SHE’S THE REASON. SHE BOUGHT ME MY FIRST ART KIT. SHE TOOK ME TO MUSEUMS, SHE TOOK ME ANYWHERE I COULD BE INSPIRED. IT WORKED!
OCCI – You’ve worked with some real legends! What’s the most memorable lesson a mentor or friend has taught you?
J – BE HUMBLE, WORK REALLY FUCKING HARD, AND PAY IT FORWARD!
OCCI – What type of music do you play in the studio while your working?
J – I LOVE MUSIC, EVERYDAY I GOT SOMETHING DIFFERENT PLAYING, RIGHT NOW I GOT FREDERIC CHOPIN PLAYING - YESTERDAY I HAD GUCCI MANE
OCCI – If you could have a drink or smoke with any musician in history. Who would it be?
J - JAY-Z. PERIOD.
OCCI - What’s one studio necessity you need at your side?
J - WEED AT THE STUDIO IS A MUST! YOU NEVER KNOW WHO’S GONNA PISS ME OFF OR WHEN IM IN A DESPERATE NEED OF INSPIRATION
OCCI - Any projects you’re working on right now you can let the readers know about?
J - I GOT A COUPLE PRINT PROJECTS IN THE WORKS! RIGHT NOW I’M WORKING ON A COOL PROJECT THAT’S AN HOMAGE TO ANDY WARHOL BUT CAN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT IT.
